Connect ChatGPT to Chalk
Connect ChatGPT so it can read your training and write plans straight into Chalk. About 3 minutes, no tech skills needed.
What you'll need
A ChatGPT account on Plus or Pro. The free plan can't add connectors yet.
Heads up
ChatGPT renamed "Apps" to "Plugins" in July 2026, so your screen may say either. The steps below name both, and nothing about the setup itself changed.
- 1
Get your Chalk link
In Chalk, tap Settings (the cog), then "Connect your AI coach". Tap "Generate connector link", then the copy button. This long web address is your private key. Keep this tab open so you can grab it in a second.
- 2
Open ChatGPT's settings
Go to chatgpt.com on a computer (this is easier on a laptop than a phone). Click your name or photo in the bottom-left corner, then choose "Settings".
- 3
Turn on Developer mode
Look for "Plugins" in the settings menu — on some accounts it's still called "Apps & connectors". Open it, go to "Advanced settings", and switch on "Developer mode". If it isn't there, check under "Security and login" instead: ChatGPT moved this toggle recently and both places are in use. You only do this once.
- 4
Start a new connector
Back on the Plugins (or Apps & connectors) screen, click "Create", "Add" or the "+" button. A box appears titled "New app" or "New plugin" — either is the right one.
- 5
Fill in the details
Name it "Chalk". Paste the link you copied in step 1 into the "Server URL" box. Set "Authentication" to "No authentication". Tick the "I understand" box, then click "Create".
- 6
Switch it on in a chat
Your new connector may appear under "Drafts" — that's normal and it still works. Open a new chat, click the "+" next to the message box, and turn on "Chalk" (it may sit under "Developer mode" or "Plugins"). Then try: "Use Chalk to show my recent sessions."
Stuck? Quick fixes
My screen says "Plugin", not "App"
That's fine — ChatGPT renamed Apps to Plugins in July 2026 and the two words now mean the same thing here. Carry on with whichever wording you see. Chalk hasn't changed and your link still works.
I can't find Developer mode anywhere
Try both places: "Plugins" (or "Apps & connectors") → "Advanced settings", and "Security and login". It also needs ChatGPT Plus or Pro — the free plan can't add connectors. On a work or school account, an admin may have switched it off.
My connector is sitting under "Drafts"
That's where developer-mode connectors live, and it works exactly the same. You don't need to publish anything.
Chalk is connected but ChatGPT ignores it
Make sure Chalk is switched on for that specific chat, using the "+" button next to the message box. If it still doesn't bite, say "Use the Chalk app" in your message.
It says it can't find Chalk's tools
Remove the Chalk connector completely and add it again. Toggling it off and on keeps the old cached version, whereas re-adding pulls the latest tools.
Nothing happens when I paste the link
Make sure you pasted the whole web address (it starts with https:// and ends in a long key), not just the ff_… part on its own.
